Buyers of consulting in the oil and gas sector spend twice as much as the rest of the market with the consulting practices of big systems integration firms.
Sourceforconsulting.com reports that 39% of client’s channel their expenditure on system integrators such as IBM and Accenture in the last six months, with clients also spending significant amounts on IT consulting.
Edward Haigh, Head of Content and Marketing at Source said:
“There are probably two major reasons for this level of expenditure on system integrators: the merger and acquisition activity in the sector, and the restructuring and consolidation projects which feature so heavily."
The report also found that spending on consulting firms in the oil and gas sector has diminished by about 7% in the last six months, and will do so by a further 2% in the following six months.
And worryingly for specialist consulting firms, oil and gas clients are less than half as likely to use them as other sectors.
“It appears the cost in managing multiple relationships with niche players is seen as too onerous,” Mr Haigh said.
